The little things

One thing about having to stay off my feet, I've gotten a TON of paper work done. I've finally managed to get through the TON of magazines (my neighbor is continually giving me her Parents and child Magazines, that I quickly read and toss) that were taking over the shelf. I'm down to 2, and they'll be gone my tonight!

Next, it's onto planning out the homeschooling book and information for the POOK.

Isn't it just like me - even when resting, I'm finding things to do and declutter, eh? :)

Feelings on Friday

I sit here, propped up in bed, laptop in front, and a wonderful view of my neighbors' trash. Pook is in the other room with the sitter, and I'm gearing myself up for a day of work. Ah... yeah, work.

I did want to make a few nods to some gorgeous farmer's market photos that Phil took. The flowers are especially gorgeous. I've come to adore the sunflowers surrounded with wild flowers. Ah... nothing beats fresh flowers from a farmer's market, EXCEPT for tender daisies picked especially for me by my sweet Pook-a-boo-k. :) They, are by far the best. Aside from the flowers, her look of pride is the best.

I also found myself moved by yet another of Ed's posts in regards to his 3 year wedding anniversay. I think what got me the most, was the last picture at the end and the comment of "My life for the past three years". The picture of the bride and groom about to kiss, is so tender, yet there's a hint of passion, smiles, a stuffed dog :), and lots of love. I wish you many, many more years of that. (And Stacie, I wish that for you and Bob, as your journey is just beginning!)

One thing I've always admired about Ed, is his knack for wit and humor, and the way he interweaves them through his prose. Ed, if you read this, your posts always really get me thinking about things, in a good way. Thanks. They prettymuch always leave me with a good feeling. To see someone enjoy life as he does, and to live a life bespeckled with humor is just lovely.

It got me thinking about my own wedding and life with Da Hub. I admit, that marriage has been most interesting for Da Hub and I. Especially because I don't think we knew what we were getting into at the time. We have since learned that we are very different individuals, and it's been fun working with our differences. Also, we've been blessed with all types of interesting challenges throughout, that have really helped us to grow as a couple and individually.

There's a picture from our wedding, (and if I knew where it was, I'd post it) where we are sticking our tongues out at each other. Yup, I think that would describe the last five years of our life together. :)

Many times, I think of our marriage as a fine wine. Each year, things just get better as we grow as individuals, and as a couple. We have been through a lot, and were blessed to have started the journey as best friends. Da Hub is still the one I turn to first when I need to talk about something, or work through thoughts. He's my biggest supporter. I know he adores me (and not just because he's always telling me), but because he's always concerned for my welfare (more than I am sometimes). We tend to take things a bit seriously, but, we are gradually incorporating more play (less projects!) into our lives.

Woah, it's Wednesday?

Time seems all whacked out lately. Probably because I've been spending most of my time on a couch with my knee/legg propped up. If I sit at my desk, it will swell up. If I'm on the couch, it gets better.

I went to the doctor, my NEW doctor, on Monday. She tweaked and twisted it, and, as I didn't go through the ceiling, she concluded I didn't tear anything. (Yay!) Though, she did tell me it would probably be a few months before it's back to where it was before. (Hmm...) Which means, lots of fun challenges. I also think I'm going to start incorporating exercises to help strengthen the knee and surrounding muscles once it does get better. In the meantime, how can I find ways to exercise without it?

It was rather funny too, her face, when I informed her that I was only taking one ibuprofen every few hours. Her eyes bulged, and I asked if I should be taking more. She informed me that most people take 3. Oh. I don't think she believed I really do have a high pain tolerance until that moment. Then again, maybe she was just amazed that 1 ibuprofen did the work of 3? Who knows?

I feel like I'm going through some life change here. The obvious message being slow down. No, really, slow down. Okay girl, if you don't slow down... There, now you HAVE to slow down.

So, here I sit. Foot propped. Baby sitter on premises, and work getting done on the laptop. I am learning wonderful patience too, as I must now depend on my beloved's help to get things done. And, as most now, the schedule a woman has, and the schedule a man has, are quite different time and prioritywise. It's not too bad though, because my sweet hubby has been amazing this week. He took off Monday and Tuesday to help me out. He's requested I take it easy, and let him help or do things like laundry, making the bed, etc.

Sweet darling hubby of mine, I am so grateful for your love, tenderness, and kindness. I am well aware that you know how challenging this situation is for me, and I'm very grateful for the help that you've been providing, and for the care you've been lavishing upon me. I know I'm blessed to have you in my life. I'm also well aware that you want me to get better, because the sooner I get better, the sooner I get back to doing the laundry and house stuff that I enjoy, and you aren't nearly as fond of. :) I love you so much. :)

Three more days until the weekend. With my knee being the way it is, plans have changed. I am hoping to get the Good Will pile out (yeah, it's still there), the basement organized, more things packed up, and a play area set up for Pook. (We've one of those plastic slides with swings for outside, but have found it's just more fun to keep it inside. :) That's the goal at least.

And now, I suppose I should get some more work done, eh?

Forced rest

On May 29, I somehow managed to twist my knee. Instead of resting it, I proceeded with my daily stuff, because it didn't hurt that much. It did creak a bit though. So, last week, I decided to call my doctor, as, it was getting close to a month, still creaking, and noticeable pain. The doctor's office didn't give me an appointment until July 13, because, I hadn't been there in 2 years. (Excuse me for not being sick.) Thus, I'm been regarded as a new patient.

Yes, as of tomorrow, I am scheduling an appointment with a new doctor, you can be. Thankfully, I've a friend who's hubby is an oncologist, and, who reccomended I REALLY rest it and take ibuprofen to help the swelling. Since doing that, my knee's now stiff (I am affirming that's part of the healing process). At brunch today, another doctor who's really a radiologist but was studying to be an orthopedic doctor, highly reccomended I get an MRI to check for tears in the cartilage.

I keep telling myself there is a lesson in all of this. Definitely rest is one of them and slowing down, but it's really aggravating, as I'm out of my routine, and have been avoiding exercise to help the healing process. I want to be rearranging the basement, packing things up, painting the door, piling up things for donation... Blarg!

I plan on resting and using this as an opportunity to learn from. Although, I'm finding it really damn hard to sit on my a$$ when there is so much I want to do!!! Grrr!!

I suppose the lessons to learn are:
1 - how to slow down
2 - how to exercise creatively without using my knee, or putting weight on it
3 - how I can get things down around the house by staying off my knee and keeping it elevated
4 - finding a new doctor
5 - depending on my hubby to take care of things I usually do, and hoping they don't drive him or me nuts
6 - get a yearly check up at the doctor, or at least find out how long before they declare you new patient status again
7 - pay more attention to what I'm eating, now that I'm not exercising
8 - how to be patient

Oh yay. And, the end result will be a lovely healing of my knee; I'm affirming.

Step by Step

Step by step, our house is being prepared to be put on the market. I feel like a kid waiting for her Christmas present. This might sound weird, but I can almost feel our new home... as though things are falling into place so that things will fall together.

It's been a wonderful process, with lovely lessons to be learned. I'm enjoying it.

And so dear weekend... here I am. Time emough to slip away with a book for some much wanted reading.

Bliss...

So much for long days...

It's almost 8 pm here, and a storm's rolling in. This morning was dark until about 8am or so, and now, the sky darkens as the rain clouds (and thunder) roll through. Oh darn... time to get off the puter and stop work. :)

Summer Solstice

Wow... to think, that in a few days, the days will start to get shorter again. Tomorrow, I'd like to do something special with the Pook to celebrate. Not sure what though. Hmmm...

Today, I was a slug. Ended up talking to the babysitter about religion, no less.

At least the front door was painted, and not by me! Although, at some point this week I will need to paint the back of it white. Ah well...

C'est la vie!

Pondering...

Lately I've been coming across a lot of articles in support of the art of homemaking and homekeeping. In other words, the art of women staying home to keep the house and raise the children. Some of these articles are charming, others bring up interesting points, and others disturb me when they encourage the house keeper to "submit" to the financial supporter (aka husband) and put everyone before themselves.

For me, I'd be delighted to stay home and "keep house". Oh, wait, I pretty much do, only I work at home too. I do have an issue when it comes to cooking though!

In any case I'm wondering, do you feel that you support homemakers? Or, are you part of the "back lash" against homemakers?

What are your thoughts?

Happy birthday to...

my darling Hubby.

...who never hestitates to remind me when I've left a dirty dish or utensil in the sink, or how often he reminds me. :)

Finding myself...

I had another realization today. I know, I have a lot of realizations, but I spent most of my life creating a self based on who I thought I should be, intead of who I am, so, discovering these things about myself is fascinated. Hmm... okay, so I guess I fascinate myself. Ha! :)

Anyway...

Today I went to the store. I'm addicted to this place here called Gabe's, that sells namebrand stuff, some with flaws, most just excess for really sweet prices. I went there a few weeks ago, and I kept passing up this skirt that I couldn't take my eyes off of. It was long, and the pattern looked like impressionist painted lavender garden. It was indeed sweet. I kept resisting it, but it was there in the back of my mind, sweetly reminding me of its presense.

So today, after taking in the car for it's oil checkup (I really go there because they treat me and Pook so lovely), and then I found myself driving to Gabe's. I was worried about the Pook, but gave her lots of attention, helped her ride in various places on the cart (yeah, YOU try to keep a 3-yr-old strapped in the front!), and, grabbed a few things to try on. Well, there was that skirt, and a cute lavendar top too.

Well, I went in the fitting room and tried it one. WOW. There I was, in a long floral print skirt, with a lavendar top, and I looked like a princess. I felt amazing.

Now, there's something I need to share. I spent most of my life defying anything pink or girly. I am not entirely sure why, but I'd gotten it into my head that I wanted to be rough and tough and strong, and therefore, not very feminine I suppose. I prefered camoflouge or black. Give me combat boots and a biker jacket any day. Maybe it was my way of just being defiant (my mother used to model and sew her own fashionable clothes, and mine).

The funny thing, is that behind it all, I just wanted to be loved. I didn't know or understand the benefits of learning to love and appreciate yourself at the time. I spent a lot of time seeking it from outside sources, only to get hurt or hurt. In any case, suddenly I've found myself drawn to the very skirts I rejected, and even floral prints. By god, I even want to start collecting those cute little floral tea cups with saucers, and get myself one of those lovely wide brimmed hats. (And yes, *sigh* I'm being serious.)

It's so weird, because I'm finally feeling in touch with my femininity. I don't feel weak, or less strong... if anything, I feel awesome as I discover my new tastes, and allow myself to like what I want to like. When I was younger, I think a large part of my identity was determined through my mother. I tended to mold myself to what she liked, and didn't. For instance, she lothes country, and living in WV, I actually like it. For a long time though, I never gave it a chance.

Hmmm... Never gave it a chance. There were a lot of things like that before. But that, will have to be in another post.

Sweet

That seems to be my new word lately. Everything is sweet. Sweet chocolate. Sweet strawberries. Sweet cherries. Sweet sheets. The sweet breeze blowing through my window, caressing my skin and hair while I type. Sweet.

The weather these last few days has just been perfect. My house feels light and airy, and I'm so ready for sleep (barring the fact that after a full day at the park yesterday, Pook woke me up at 3am - and didn't go back to sleep).

But you know what? It's all still sweet.

Summer's Sweet Solace

Sweet evening sunset in the summer's sensuous sky, I am humbled by your offer of soft serenity. My body, wearied from summer's playground and the intense joy of the three-year-old who holds my heart combined with fresh air, beckons me to comfort it with smooth cotton sheets. My head begs to be resting on a pillow of feathery solace. Who am I to differ?

Work is done. The sun is setting.

Tomorrow, a new day dawns, with not so much excitement as a park on a day of sunny bliss, but excitement enough.

For you see, somehow, somewhere, I've fallen in love. With my three-year-old blessing, who offers sweet kisses, baby blue-eyed blinks, and tender cuddles. With my fabulous husband, who chips in to shovel mulch or help clean up paint chips when my painting job to help him out went awry, and coddles me with cuddles and soft kisses when I need them. But most of all, lately, I've rediscovered and fallen head over heals with life itself.

Dancing to the rhythms, wearing glasses with rosey hues, I sing to the stars and walk, barefoot, upon dewy grass. Laundry, dusting, vacuuming... have become tender Buddhist meditations as I honor my home with cleanliness, fondly remember each spot I tenderly touch and wipe.

Is this bliss? Is this enlightenment? Who the hell cares? It matters not, cause it feels damn fine.

June...

Long days, lots of light, beautiful sunrises...

I love June. The early sunrise inspires me to awake and start the day. It's so quiet and peaceful... bliss.

Perhaps, it's the longer days that have been adding to my motivation? Who knows... but I'm relishing it!

Ms. Motivation

It's been a full, but fun week. I'm doing more than ever, but instead of feeling overwhelmed, I'm feeling challenged and accomplished. Always a good thing.

I'm very excited because I've been surpassing my own expectations for myself. For instance, this summer I've made plans for a once a week playdate to a different parks each week, in addition to her other weekly playdate. This past week I fit in a visit with a friend, reorganized and packed up several decoration boxes, organized shelves in the basement, picnicked in the park, weeded and edged the garden, had mulched delivered, spread mulch, made a multitude of phone calls I'd been putting off, scheduled appointments, ran errands, painted the trim in Pook's room and the bathroom, and today I might even venture to try my hand at embroidery. So... we'll see.

In any case I'm embracing this blessing of a ton of energy and making the most of it. I've even been working on shifting my perspective. Any you know what? The benefits have been amazing!

And another thing...

I love this latest discovery:

http://willows95988.typepad.com/tongue_cheek/

Sweet Summer

In a couple of weeks, summer will officially be here. I don't know when I lost track of Summer's arrival, but only recently have I been cherishing the soft hints of its return. The smell, the shift in the air, the various flowers blooming, the shift in the sun, the long days...

I am so filled with gratitude for summer right now. This morning, Pook and I went outside to garden. Okay, I gardened while she poked things with a stick. I cleared up the mint, made room for the mulch I need to order (thanks for the tip about that Ed - although I'm still not sure if 1 or 2 yards will be enough...), and weeded. It felt really good to get out there and clean up the place. I'm looking forward to the mulch.

Yesterday a friend painted the bottom portion of our house, and tomorrow or Saturday, we'll be putting the shutters back on. We've still got to paint the front door, do trim in the Pook's room and Fish bathroom, and maybe a few other touchs ups here and there.

They say that you should always leave a house as you'd like to find it. And, as I'm filled with a delightful sense of accomplishment, as well as a sense of amazement at what I've been capable of getting done these last few weeks, I feel really good. I am a bit sad that we're pretty-ying it up before we leave, but you know what? That's okay. Because I'm hoping I won't have to wait until the next house before prettying it up. Donations for Playful Garce's new house fund are willingly being accepted.

It's summer, my house is looking lovely, getting decluttered and organized... I love this feeling.

In other news, having all these activities during the week is causing me to get more done. Go figure. I'm enjoying it, loving the sense of accomplishment, and excited about recognizing my ablities through all this. Don't know if that makes sense. I think over the last 5 years, I've really let house things slide. Maybe it's just me, but there is an amazing feeling when you are putting your home in order. I guess I should be psyched that after this house, then, I'll get to work on the next at some point. Hmmm...

Serenity of a clean desk...

There is something about a clean desk that set me right for the day. I've noticed that I tend to feel more serene when things are clean and clear. As we go through and prepare to release our clutter, I've been packing up books, unneeded knick knacks, and things we don't or won't use for awhile.

I'm loving the freedom and the flow of having more space. It's challenging to describe, best to say it just feels GOOD!

Simply Lovely...

It was a simply lovely day today. And, I got a lot done too. I'm on the accomplishment badwagon, yessir! And I'm hanging on while it lasts.

I was blessed enough to get out of the house and have a picnic lunch with Pook and her pal C and mom T. It was a lot of fun, I got to get fresh air, and even managed quite a workout. (You try pushing a Pook on a see saw - you're either doing squats or arms reps.) And, my little darling climbed up the tall, straight, ladder for the big slide - on her own. I did spot her, but we had trouble keeping her off.

As most of you know, or may have guessed, or not, I'm a bit of a homebody. Seriously, sometimes, it's like pulling teeth to get me to go somewhere or leave the house. So, hanging out with T and C has been forcing me to get out of the house and get fresh air. This summer, T's come up with a list of activities and places for us to go on our playdates. I'm excited. I don't usually venture out on my own. I'm not sure why, I've just always prefered staying in. But today, the fresh air and sunshine did me good.

Sometimes, I feel like such a fool when I don't take advantage of being outdoors - especially when the weather is so lovely.

Today's list of Accomplishments for those who care: I managed to do a bit of yoga, repack boxes, pack up books and games, spend a day at the park with Pook and friends, catch up on my magazines, watch a movie with the family, repack 2 more boxes in the basement, rearrange the shelves in the kitchen to look less cluttered, pack up 3 boxes in my office, talk to the acocuntant, water the flowers, confirm the painting arrangements, and work. Yup. A good day overall.

Interesting quote to share...

"The irony of commitment is that it's deeply liberating – in work, inplay, in love. The act frees you from the tyranny of your internalcritic, from the fear that likes to dress itself up and parade aroundlike rational hesitation. To commit is to remove your head as the barrier to you life. " -- Anne Morris, a New York Starbucks customer

I'm not sure how I feel about this just yet, but, thought it was interesting.

All is as it should be

I go through these moments, when everything just feels as though it's just as it should be. It was a good day today, although we might've spent way too much money on plastic storage bins, however, they will indeed be used. Now, I've just got to find the time to start organizing and filling them.

I think Stacie's motivation and accomplishments have been rubbing off on me. Or, maybe it's all the new blogs I've been reading lately. I seem to keep coming across blogs with women who have a tons of children, yet still get a lot accomplished.

3 plus years of being a mom, and my attitude is finally changing. When I first started out, I used to get petrified of doing certain things, and I was quite negative in regards to what my capabilities were. Meanwhile, I was feeling down as my friends with 2 or more children were cruising along.

I think it's a combination of looking at my life through different eyes and perspectives, and just adapting to the attitude of getting it done. These last few weeks, my weeks have been fuller then ever, and I'm not only keeping up with the activities and work, but I'm doing house projects too. In preparation for our move, we are decluttering, repacking, reorganizing, painting, mulching, fixing things.

This week a friend is coming to paint the outside of the house on Wednesday. I've also got to find someone who delivers mulch, and get it delivered. There are tax forms to sort out with my accountant, updates to my new website, an oil change to schedule, a wellness visit for the pook, planning for the summer, final hand over for the 4 part project I was working on, siding to be power washed, a purple front door to be repainted, baseboards to be repainted, a basement with a car load or two of stuff for the Good will, baby clothes to go through for consignment, stuff to get rid of, stuff to pack...

Thankfully hubby is teaming up with me on this. Yay! Who's awesome and great? (Pook will tell you that she is... and so is Daddy!)

Today, as I sat on the hill in the backyard, looking at the house, I felt sort of strange. The things I finally wanted to do to my house, were finally getting done - in preparation for the move. Blah.

At least, I should be able to enjoy it for a little while. Or, maybe after we move, I'll just have to have a house party, where we'll provide food, floor space to crash (and/or maybe a yard to camp in!), as well as paint, building materials, and yard stuff depending. :)

Anyway, keep your fingers crossed that we find a house with at least a good acre, 3-4 bedrooms, kitchen, dinning room, cave space for hubby, 2 baths, front porch, that's cozy, comfortable, affordable, and well-kept and loved, in WV. :)

The next step...

I've been avoiding that all to familiar feeling in my stomach of taking that step forth. It's that step where you don't know what's next, or how far down (or up) the next step is, and, to be honest, you've nested rather well on the level you are on.

You see, we're prepping our house for the market, and looking for a new place, with an acre or two of land to move too. Last week we looked at a few houses, and I fell in love with a cute little farm house form the 1900's, on 1.8 acres. But, no central air, no storage space, and the only trees on the property were a small grouping in front of the grogeous front porch. (And, the back porch is lovely, as well as the laundry room.

Hubby didn't like it and felt cramped, but I felt cozy there, and could see myself there. It was quite a sweet lil place.

In any case, we're taking that step, our feet dwindling in the air, you know that spot right before you step down to the next step? I say down, because to step up, you've got an idea, or direction per say. It's an interesting place to be.

Then too, I got a strange reading from my reading, "You need to know that you cannot go back." Hmmm... Not sure what that means, except, that if I get pregnant, that's another step I'll be taking. And yeah, I wouldn't go back on that one. Plus... life with two?

Okay, not ready to think that far ahead yet.

Life changes are happening. That's for sure. And, if the cards are right, we'll be in a new home by the fall. Wild.

Finding our first home just flowed so right. It's wonderful. We pay less for our mortgage than people pay for an aparment here. But, we both want more land. And that, seems to be the only thing we agree on for the moment.

Ah...

Time for bed.

Oh goody goodness!

Someone please send me a dose of motivation. I am SO the procrastinator today with my work. Although, did find 6 T-shirts (nice ones) for $16 at a Gabe's store around the corner, started working on my new business website, made phonecall to the accountant, helped calm a friend, and found time to read this morning...

Um... I really need to get back to work now.

Blarg.
